Pheasant Tail Jig
Tying instructions

Clamp the hook in the vise and lay a basic winding. The windings have to be next to each other, otherwise the Tungsten Heavy Body cannot be slipped on.

Slide on the Tungsten Heavy Body matching the hook size and secure it with a basic wrapping on the slots. Complete the tying step with a half hitch and wrap the thread backwards.

Form a nice transition between hook and tungsten body with several turns of the tying thread. Then tie in some fibres of a pheasant feather as tail.

Tie in one after another some copper wire for the rib and some fibers of the pheasant feather for the abdomen.

Wrap the fibers of the pheasant feather flat and tightly forward and tie them off with the tying thread. Wrap the copper wire with not too tight turns counter-rotating to the front and tie off.

Because the fly swims upwards with the tip of the hook, rotate the fly in the vise by 180 degrees. One after another tie in a strip of tinsel in pearl and a few fibers of peacock herl for the thorax.

Wrap the peacock herl to make a little head and tie off. Make sure that the body does not get too thick. Then place the tinsel over the thorax and tie off.

To prevent the tinsel from slipping out, fold the tinsel backwards, tie it off again and complete with a head knot. Cut off the rest of the tinsel. The head knot can then be secured with some varnish.
