EFFA Annual Meeting at River Ribnik in BIH

EFFA meeting Ribnik
Manuel and Roberto, the first Spanish EFFA instructors

On 9-11 May 2008, the EFFA Fly Fishing Meeting took place at Ribnik River in Bosnia . Our Bosnian friends really did a great job! They were supported by five warm and sunny days. What LGT Company was doing to make the spoiled European fly fishermen have a nice time in Bosnia , was incredible! The lodges are one of the best we can find in our tours. The river Ribnik, with the water not at maximum condition, reserved anyway big fishes and a lot of fun. It's really a beautiful river, a perfect answer to Slovenian Unec. Many mayflies had filled the air because of the warm weekend. The big stoneflies landed with rumour on the water, too. The exam's location was a huge meadow, perfect cut and decored with the EFFA tents and banners. On Saturday, an important workshop took place, with casting and tying demos by Valerio Santagostino, Sepp Fuchs, Claudio Balassone and Günter Feuerstein. Sepp Fuchs and Günter Feuerstein finally showed their remarkable fly casting abilities in a fly casting duel. They presented their flies, casting with no fly rods but their hands and the fly line only, in a fishing hat placed about 15 m of distance away. The duel ended even. The fly tying fans could watch Marc Petitjean tying incredible CDC patterns and Wolfgang Fabisch presenting the advantages of tying with a Nor-Vise fly tying vise. During the dinner, Alex presented the “ EFFA Guide Programme”, which was said to be almost finished. Sunday, finally the certification took place under a nice sun and a light wind. The seven candidates were well prepared but very some were quite nervous.

At the end two very nice new friends passed: the Spanish Roberto Caldeiro and Manuel Iglesias. Keen salt water fishermen, they live at the Atlantic coast, where they often go fishing big tunas. Well-done and welcome!! Congratulations to the new instructors with the hope to see EFFA growing in Spain . Finally I cannot remark the big work of Alex and Ivan, who have promised a big surprise for the next year, too.

Claudio Balassone demonstrating TLT technique in front of a big crowd of visitors. Claudio is a master of this technique and knows well how to explain this Italian dry fly fishing technique.

Some of our instructors with our dear friend and fly tier Marc Petitjean at one of the mighty Pliva springs. The springs supplied Pliva during our stay with with 50 m3 of fresh ground water per second!
