Matthias Dibiasi

Lives in Steinach am Brenner / Austria

My name is Matthias Dibiasi, I am married and have two sons.
I was born in Innsbruck in November 81. I went to several schools and now in the operating theatre as an instrumentalist (operating room nurse).
As I tried out a lot of different fun sports in my youth and then decided to stick with two, I actually came to fishing very late.
In 2006, a very good friend took me fishing on a lake for the first time. From the very first bite I fell into fishing fever. That's how I got into fly fishing about two years later, which fascinates and captivates me to this day.
A few years passed before I also decided to tie my own flies, because it is much cheaper (or so I thought :-D). I tried out pretty much every material I could get my hands on.
As there weren't that many fly tiers in my home country (Tyrol) and as far as I knew there were hardly any courses on offer, I got all my knowledge from books and the internet (YouTube). I learnt a lot of techniques from Davie McPhail and Barry Ord Clark (The Feather Bender). I also read a few books on various tying techniques, insects, baitfish, etc. and slowly started to mix a few patterns, which resulted in a few of my own creations. In the meantime you can find me from time to time at some tying evenings in Tyrol and you can also find some of my tying instructions on YouTube.
I usually test my patterns in my home waters or in other waters in Tyrol. From time to time I also occasionally travel to eastern Austria, Finland, northern Italy and even Germany on different waters. But my bigger plan would be to see more to gain more experience in order to possibly adapt some patterns to other waters for myself.
Fly fishing and fly tying have become one big thing for me, and I try almost every day to realise and optimise my ideas on the tying vise.
